Why Aren't There Donation Boxes At The Airport?

When I flew to DC on Saturday, I (of course) packed for two weeks. I included suits, dresses, a gown, PJs, pumps, an winter dress coat, and then the regular clothes. As I approached baggage check, I dreaded that I would be over 50 lbs (checked bag fee + an overweight fee = NOOOO!). And, obviously, my giant suitcase was 56.5 lbs. Even after, I switched some shirts and a pair of [...]

Philanthropist Boutique = Best of Both Worlds!

Most of the stores/sales that I feature on here donate a portion of their proceeds to a charity of their choosing. But, imagine a store that donated 100% of proceeds to a nonprofit! Impossible? Not really says the ladies of Philanthropist Boutique, a San Francisco shop, which opened in September. The large open space which houses the boutique carries designers ranging from Vera Wang and Rachel Roy, to Alice + Olivia and Catherine Malandrino.  Every [...]

32 Bowls of Food for $1

I know that title seems impossible, but let me explain. When you donate $1 to Feeding America (formerly known as America’s Second Harvest), that dollar can help provide 16 bowls of food to hungry American families. Now, Kraft Foods is matching all donations, up to $250,000! So, does my title make sense now? Before: $1 = 16 Bowls Now: $1 = 32 Bowls!!! I donated $5 this morning…Feels good knowing that my Starbucks money helped [...]

Everyone knows that Chicago winters are NO joke. Said winters tend to inspire tons of eating and tea-sipping! One of my personal favs is obviously soup! So, I Guess I Am Going to DC…!

As some of you knew, I swore off going to the inauguration. The traffic…the street closures…the probable lines EVERYWHERE…the thought of a ridiculous line at my faves (Ben’s and Busboys)…It just seemed like too much! Plus, my father/step-mom are going to like two balls (one official, one semi-official), and I didn’t want to be sitting in the VA apartment with them watching them get ready and feeling salty. LOL! Well fast-forward to yesterday…My BFF calls [...]

Link of the Day

www.dailychallenge.org This is the perfect site for those of you who like to combine social networking with social change! DailyChallenge.org suggests acts or ‘challenges’ that members can take into the real world to positively impact themselves and their communities. The concept behind Daily Challenge is very simple: Do one good, daily. And, most of the daily challenges (which you select), are slight things you can do to make a difference. One of today’s challenges? Take three articles [...]
