KB’s Journey: Xbox, Trivia, Bright Pink, and Shoooes!

Over the weekend, I was talking to a friend of mine about how tired I’ve been lately and he asked me what I’d done all week. Usually, I answer with the usual “Work, Red Pump stuff, work, blog.” But, this time, I attended some actual events, a couple with a charitable focus! So, of course, that made me smile. Here’s a quick recap of the two fun things that I did last week!

  • I attended an event hosted by Xbox 360 to promote Beatles Rock Band. Parents and their children came out for a night of singing and jamming. I personally did not jump in the game but plenty of more qualified people did. In addition to the fact that the concept is completely awesome, the launch of Beatles Rock Band has a charitable component. When you visit Xbox Live and download the exclusive Beatles’ track “All You Need is Love” for your game, a portion of your sale will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

  • On Sunday, I, along with my Chicagonista crew, joined representatives from Chicago media for the Asian American Journalists Association‘s Trivia Bowl. Teams from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, CBS, and more gathered at Harry Caray’s Restaurant to answer (or not answer) questions on Chicago history, sports, and local lore. While Chicagonista didn’t win, we had a great time raising money for AAJA student scholarships.

So, what’s on my fabulous giving agenda for this week???

  • On Thursday, the AKIRA Women’s Shoe Store (1849 W. Chicago Avenue) will host a shoe drive to benefit charities in the Chicagoland area. When you bring in a pair of shoes, you will receive 20% off of a new pair! The event lasts from 4-9p and champagne will be served! I already know what shoes I want…I just need to confirm that the store has my size!
  • This Friday, CheekyChicago.com, The Underground, and LuxGoddess.com will be throwing a party for Bright Pink! If you’re looking for a great way to kick off your weekend, come out out to The Underground (56 W. Illinois) from 9-11p for a private reception. A $20 donation includes vodka, beer, and wine. Can’t wait…Love Underground and I love Bright Pink!

  • Also, on Friday, I will be attending the Hello Stiletto Shoe Ball being hosted by the Hello Stiletto Shoe Club to raise funds for the Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. The “black tie optional, fabulous shoes essential” event will feature live music by the acclaimed Tovi Khali, dancing, cocktails, and hors d’ oeuvres, plus a chance to browse shoe displays and products all night long. Tickets are $75 and we will be partying at the Holiday Inn Merchandise Mart (350 W. Center Drive) from 7:30p-12:30a. Yay!

Between Red Pump, work, and GRE prep, I honestly don’t think that I can fit more than those three events into my week, but you never know…BTW, have any of you guys taken the GRE? If so, I would L-O-V-E any tips that you can share with me! My test is in January and I need to be on top of my game with this one so I can get into my dream program!
