I love, love, LOVE watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I usually just like to watch the beginning where they discuss the family and then the end when they reveal the new home. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the demolition and the interior design…It’s just that I’d rather immerse myself in the stories of the families. I can’t think of a single episode that hasn’t drawn a few tears out of me. I’m not even kidding!
The selected families usually have such strong stories of love and selflessness that it’s hard not to literally be moved by their stories. I can usually stay strong right up until the point when the family yells, “Bus driver, MOVE THAT BUS!” That’s when they start jumping and crying and that’s when my “thug hits the floor,” in the words of Awesomely Luvvie.
I also think it’s amazing that friends and strangers alike come together to help create new digs for these deserving families. I don’t know how many hours of manpower it requires to renovate (or build) these homes, but I can guess it’s a lot. Kudos to all the volunteers and thank you to ABC for continuing to show the power of volunteerism and community!
