I Love Pinterest!

Even though I love Twitter, I can honestly say that I’ve never had an official obsession with the site. In fact, I always found pride in the fact that I’ve never really been officially obsessed with any social network. But that, my friends, was before Pinterest. When I first received an invitation to check it out, I dabbled around with it but didn’t really take the time to explore and get all into it.

However, after we launched a Red Pump board on the site, I decided to give it another go. GO, I did. I can officially say that Pinterest is one of my favorite sites on the web. You know how I know this? Because I have to visit the URL at least once a day. #signsofanaddict

My "Fabulous Philanthropy" board

For those of you wondering what Pinterest is, my best explanation is that it is a digital version of a cork board. You can create boards for anything and pin almost anything that you want. I have boards for Fabulous Philanthopy, home décor, fashion, Mykonos, inspirational quotes, etc. Our Red Pump Account has boards for red pumps (of course) and other causes which we support. For causes and organizations, it is a great social media tool to add to your arsenal, especially if your brand is highly visual.

In fact, cause marketing guru Joe Waters recently wrote an article titled, “Why and How Causes Should Use Pinterest.” It’s a great read for anyone who works for a nonprofit and/or is passionate about raising awareness about an issue. I advise reading through his article and gathering some tips that you can use!

Joe is also looking for folks to enter his Pinterest “Causes I Love Contest” and win a $250 DonorsChoose.org Gift Card! To enter, do the following:

  1. Sign up for Pinterest and create a board called “Causes I love Contest.”
  2. Pin images to the board of anything you love about your favorite cause(s). Need some inspiration? Check out the “Causes I love” boards on Pinterest. You can pin anything. Just make sure it looks awesome!
  3. At noon on Thursday, January 12th, he’ll judge the best board based on content, originality and downright stylishness and emotional appeal and reward the winner with a $250 Donorschoose.org gift card to use for a school project in your area that’s sure to make a classroom smile.

I started my “Causes I Love” board here. Are you pinning yet? What do you think of the site so far?
