Happy Monday, everyone! After nine long months, we have finally made it to October and I am beyond jazzed for two main reasons…
- This is the month of my fabulous birth (#teamlibra)
- It’s the first month of the last quarter of 2011 (Time to finish strong)
I feel so blessed every year around October 1st. I know that this is the month where I became a blessing to my parents and to the world as a whole. And, this year, I’ve decided to step my greatness up in the blessing arena so I’m adopting the Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative (PACPI) as my personal cause of the month.
I know some of you all saw this title and thought that I was about to reveal some miracle pregnancy. Ha! Sorry to disappoint.
PACPI was established in 2000 by Pediatric AIDS Chicago to help eliminate the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child. Perinatal HIV transmission is the most common way that children are infected with HIV and is currently the source of nearly all AIDS cases in children in the United States. Transmission tends to happen when expectant mothers don’t get tested early enough in their pregnancy or did not receive preventative treatment.
One of PACPI’s key programs is their prenatal classes for HIV-positive mommies-to-be. During the classes, the expectant moms learn about pregnancy and HIV, nutrtion during pregnancy while taking HIV medications, research trials, and more. At the completion of the classes, the moms-to-be receive a diaper bag full of essential items for their little one. And, that’s where I (and hopefully you) come in…I am purchasing three diaper bags and committing myself to helping fill the bags with new essentials like onesies, diapers, baby wipes, lotions, pacifers, etc before the end of the month. I’m asking for your help with my virtual baby shower.
Please join me as I give a little assistance to moms in honor of my birthday month. You can contribute in one of three ways:
- Get in touch with me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Twitter and I will pick-up the items from you
- Bring items to my birthday happy hour on Friday, 10/14 at a to-be-determined location in Chicago’s South Loop or West Loop
- Donate the items or make a monetary contribution directly to PACPI
Babies are just a blessing and I’m really excited to support the health education and prevention efforts of this awesome organization. Plus, anytime I can shop for baby onesies, I’m IN! Not that I have baby fever or anything… O_o
