One People, One History, One Future [Event]

Must Attend, The Arts

My friend, Arionne, is one of those women that you meet and instantly fall in love (and admiration) with. She is a business woman, a supermom, the founder of TWO nonprofits, the editor of Urban Shake Magazine, and a complete sweetheart. In addition to everything else that she has going on, she has organized the inaugural Urban Shake Magazine Awards, “One People, One History, One Future.”

The awards will recognize young adults in Chicago who are working to make a difference in communities here and everywhere, and will benefit the A. Phillip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. The Pullman Porter Museum represents an important piece of Chicago history and African-American history. The facility is named after men who made history – Asa Philip Randolph and Pullman Porters who made up the membership of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) union, the first African-American labor union in the country to win a collective bargaining agreement.

I am honored to accept the “Selfless Service” award on behalf of The Red Pump Project, and am looking forward to meeting many of the other honorees including Tiffany Davis (Bad Girls Club), Dave Jeff (PHLI Worldwide), and Chicago aldermanic candidate Che “Rhymefest” Smith. Thank you, Ari, for thinking of me!

Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased at UrbanShakeAwards.Eventbrite.com! If you’re in Chicago, I encourage you to attend. Regardless of your location, head on over to Urban Shake and check out the articles. Great stuff indeed!
