“Be grateful.” It’s a phrase that we all hear on a regular basis but sometimes it’s easier said than done.
In an effort to shut out anxiety, I have been trying to cultivate a more grateful existence this year. I have a weekly goal to write in a gratitude journal and I regularly seek out scriptures on the topic. However, I still have moments where I find myself in a slump because I have spent too much time thinking about what I don’t have.
As we enter this season of thanks, I am challenging myself to be more intentional with my gratitude practice. Being grateful is key to a purpose-filled life and that is the only kind of life that I’m trying to have right now!
I know that I’m not alone in this desire so I’d love to have you join me over the next month on this journey to a more thankful heart. I want to stress that this isn’t about ignoring negative situations or feelings that come our way. This is about choosing to find something good in that moment in which to anchor your spirit. Being grateful is a choice. It’s a choice that needs to be made daily for maximum results.
Think of gratitude like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. The stronger that your grateful heart becomes, the better prepared you are for life’s ups and downs..
