TFG Spotlight: Young Professionals of Chicago

TFG Spotlight will highlight organizations or initiatives which demonstrate a strong commitment to philanthropy and charitable acts.

Last week, my blog life became overshadowed by my work life and I didn’t get to do as much blogging as I wanted. *cue the violins* One of the events that I wanted to talk about was the Summer Soiree hosted by the Young Professionals of Chicago (YPC) on Friday, the 8th. The Summer Soiree is one of YPC’s signature fundraisers, and the funds raised will help provide scholarships to Chicago high school students.

Young Professionals of Chicago, is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization that offers professional development, social networking, and philanthropic opportunities to those who join. According to their website, YPC members are expected to “get involved, have influence, and make a difference” not only in business settings but within their communities.

The Civic/Philanthropy committee makes sure that YPC members are involved with monthly volunteering opportunities with Chicago Cares, special volunteering opportunities (i.e. fundraisers), and YPC’s College Bound program. The College Bound program matches YPC members with high school seniors providing them with the chance to mentor and guide the youth as they prepare for college and the entire admission process.

In addition to the great volunteer efforts, YPC hosts networking/business development events such as CEO breakfasts, entrepreneur workshops, and much more! If you are interested in becoming involved with the Young Professionals of Chicago and their programs/events, please visit their website at ypchicago.org!

It should be no surprise that Philosophy has a line of products dedicated to raising funds for charity. I mean, this beauty brand wants you “to live a better life by being better to yourself.” And, there’s no better way to be better to yourself than to be better to someone else.

Philosophy carries various products to benefit charities…See below for the lineup!

P.S. The Joyful Heart Foundation was founded by Law and Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson). It’s an organization to “heal, educate, and empower” survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. It’s great to see that she’s leveraging her television role and celebrity for a great cause.

Tote Your Philanthropy Around

Give bags and travel accessories have graced the pages of InStyle magazine and have been seen on the arms of celebrities such as Christina Ricci, Sheryl Crow, and Jessica Alba. While that alone makes these bags and accessories stylish by default, it’s the philanthropic nature of the company that earns it a spot on the blog. Give donates 10% of net profits to charities annually. The company’s philosophy is “that part of being chic means not just carrying the bag that you love, but also supporting the organizations you love.” *applause* I couldn’t have said it better myself!

Organizations We Love is a campaign where they choose a different non-profit monthly to donate to and feature on the website and e-newsletter. You can visit the website to be updated on the charity of the month!

Here’s a sample of some of the items available in the Summer 2008 collection:

1. Leather Train Case, $295. 2. Katherine Clutch (Metallic), $435. 3. Weekender , $688

I really like the weekender, and consider that a total investment piece. I’ll have to add it to the big ticket savings plan…Anyways, for these bags and more, visit the website at shopgive.com!

We Love to Erase MS

So, one of the causes closest to my heart is finding a cure for multiple sclerosis! I’m always looking for different ways to donate my time and money for programs, research, etc. So, imagine my delight when I came across these cute “We ♥ To Erase MS” orange tees (I ordered mine last week)!

MS Tees

These tees were designed by Tommy Hilfiger, a long-time supporter of MS research, and 100% of the proceeds support the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis. The signature event for the Nancy Davis Foundation is the celebrity-filled gala, “The Race to Erase MS” featuring among many other things a celebrity fashion show by Tommy Hilfiger. This year was the 15th anniversary of the gala and raised over $2 MILLION dollars to support MS research!

Click here for more information on the tees! While you’re on the site, be sure to check out the other stylish merchandise for sale including super-chic orange leather bracelets from Alexandra Richard and some flirty orange nail polish…Just in time for summer!

Welcome!

I decided that there needed to be a central site that profiles fabulous movers-and-shakers who have committed themselves to changing the world with a stylish hand and an open heart. Everyday, there are plenty of designers, boutiques, celebrities, fashionistas, and more doing their part to support the charitable cause of their choice. They don’t do it for the recognition, but why should their good deeds go unnoticed?

I will do my part to keep you posted on sales, fashion events, galas, and initiatives designed to raise money for charity. This blog will also take a look at the charities connected to some of my favorite celebs!
