Last year, I (along w/1000 other Big Ten alumni) revisited a more simpler time in our lives as we treked across River North for on a bar crawl. This was not just any old bar crawl though. It was the inaugural Chicago Big Ten Alumni Charity Bar Crawl and we united to raise over $30K for the Chicago Public Schools. Well, the crawl is back and happening on Saturday, August 27 and we’re gunning to raise $50K this time! The video [...]

The ladies of August Bloom Haute Floral Design are celebrating their second anniversary with a philanthropic fleuranthropic (how clever!) bash to help repair the historic Garfield Park Conservatory (GPC). GPC was damaged during a hailstorm that rolled through Chicago on June 30th. As a result, half of the display houses are currently closed to the public and all ten of the greenhouses were severely damaged. I visited GPC for the first time and was seriously [...]

I’m a sucker for creative ideas/events that combine fashion and philanthropy, especially when I’m already a supporter of the cause. A group of Chicago’s most fashionable philanthropists and retailers are collaborating for Flair: Fun, Fashion Philanthropy, the first citywide effort for a fine designer, vintage and couture resale event. All proceeds from Flair will go towards The Chicago Lighthouse’s mission to serve people who are blind or visually impaired. Throughout 2011, there will be a [...]
Okay, gals and gents…I’m super late on this post but that’s the kind of day I’ve been having! Anyways, this post is dedicated to my Chicagoans. TODAY until 9p: Bloomingdale’s (900 N. Whenever I break out in a stiletto-powered run, I always imagine myself looking as graceful as Carrie Bradshaw. I mean, who can forget the time she chased after Pete (Aidan’s dog) in short shorts and red peep-toe stiletto slip-ons? Magic, I tell you. Even though my run is not as graceful, I’m not going to let that stop me from participating in lululemon’s “Pumped to Run” event this Saturday in Chicago. At 9a, I, along [...]
As I get older and older, I continue to gain a greater appreciation for wine. But, I’m still scared to venture too far out of my wine comfort zone, lest I relive a horrible night from Sophomore year of college. Any ILLINI familiar with Wine Night at Clybourne’s? Anyways, I digress. The Tasting Room (1415 W. Randolph) is giving me a great reason to expand my wine knowledge with its’ tasting sessions for charity, “Flights [...]
Last weekend, Red Bull kicked off its Summer Skyline Series at Chicago’s NV Penthouse Lounge. The series combines staples of a day party (colorful cocktails, great music) with the amazingness of Chicago’s rooftop scene. What makes the Skyline Series even better is that each event raises funds for a different charitable organization! The Red Pump Project was last week’s recipient and we had a blast! The weather was beautiful and we camped out in a [...]
Last week on Twitter, I talked about how I represented Haiti superhard in college. I’m not Haitian, but I was an aspiring French minor and wanted all of my classmates to know about the tiny country of freed slaves who had a beautiful culture and spoke French. I had a flag in my bedroom, and even tried to teach myself Kreyol. I never learned, but when I graduated, I had a greater sense of appreciation [...]
Eating is such a fun activity, especially when the establishment/cooks are just THAT good! Mmm…now combine that with a chance to give back, and you’ve got a match made in heaven. Here are two opportunities for you to chow and support some great organizations. The Local Tourist Restaurant Week For almost a week, diners have stopped by participating restaurants to enjoy three course meals for only $25/lunch and $35/dinner. Ten percent of each meal goes to Endure To [...]
